Is this course for you?

This course is for those of you already working in the electrotechnical industry, and is designed to ensure that your working practices in the design, installation, inspection, and testing of wiring systems are compliant with the industry-standards laid out in the IET 18th Edition.

The IET 18th Edition is the essential publication for all professionals working in the electrical industry. Published in July 2018, the electrical standard requirements laid out within came into force in January 2019. It forms the national standard to which all new and amended electrical installations, designed after 1 January 2019, in the UK are to comply.

This is a part-time evening course, so can be fitted in around your existing work or study commitments.

What experience and skills will you gain?

You will develop an understanding of the industry-standard changes brought about by the IET 18th Edition including (but not limited to):

  • Additions to the scope of BS 7671
  • Changes to the disconnection times for certain circuits
  • Further requirements for circuit protection in domestic dwellings
  • Considerations for Arc Fault Detection in many installations
  • Supporting of wiring systems
  • Inspection and testing procedures
