Course description:

If you are aiming for a career in the construction industry and want to get a broad training this course is an excellent place to start. You will get the opportunity to develop skills in wood working plastering painting and decorating bricklaying wall and floor tiling while also learning about core subject areas such as health and safety and working and communicating effectively in the construction trades. In addition you will develop skills in joints; fit architrave and skirting; fit ironmongery to an internal door; use plaster materials to produce moulds; plaster a ceiling walls and corners; apply paint to substrates; apply wallpapers to substrates; prepare substrates for painting and decorating; build a block wall brick wall and cavity wall; and tile floors and walls.

Entry Requirements

  • 3 GCSEs D-G / or 3-1 (in 2017 GCSEs) - Relevant industry experience

Assessment Method

Synoptic practical assessments and multiple online exams.

To promote high quality learning that meets the demands of the construction industry.

Progression Opportunities

Having successfully completed this course you could progress to Level 2 Building Maintenance for example or another construction qualification including an apprenticeship.

Facilities

The course is 20% theory (classroom based) and 80% practical (workshop based) plus a minimum of one week's work experience.
