Please introduce yourself and your current occupation
My name is Johana Vargas, and I am originally from Bolivia. I have an academic background in Environmental Studies, holding both a bachelor's and a master's degree. I will start a role as an Environment Manager at Grosvenor.
How did you find out about the Hub?
I am deeply passionate about my career and have been searching for ways to further develop this passion in the areas of environmental and sustainability. That’s how I came across the LSBU Green Careers Hub. I first enrolled in the Net Zero Bootcamp at LSBU, followed by joining the Green Careers Hub.
What course/ job did you enroll on with the Hub and how has it contributed to your development as an individual?
After several months of looking for my next step, I found the Decarbonization Business Development work placement experience at Cenergist. This experience helped me gain valuable insights into business development in the UK, and it significantly improved my confidence and abilities. Initially, I saw it as a new challenge, but in the end, I realized it was something I was more than capable of achieving.
If you could give one piece of advice to other residents about working with the Hub, what would it be?
I have many pieces of advice, but the most important one is to believe in yourself. You are good enough, regardless of your background or experience. For others to believe in you, you must first believe in yourself. This might sound like a cliché, and it took me a long time to fully understand, but it’s true. Avoid comparing yourself to others; everyone’s path is unique. Whether it takes longer or shorter to reach your goals, your time will come as long as you’re prepared for it. It’s important to value the small but significant things like health, family, and personal values.
If you are struggling with anything, remember to take one step at a time, appreciate every effort, and acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small. Life is full of opportunities, and each day is a chance to do something wonderful don’t forget that
